Using salvaged fabric & leather, we had fun making a little tiny cuff bracelet.

Junk Store Loot & Some Arts & Crafts

This Saturday is arts & crafts day at the Griffin house. This warm weather is perfect for anything & everything outside.

On a trip to the countryside with friends, we found some beautiful old things.

We're in the process of turning the clock into something special. The little old brass ship bookends got laquered with white paint & will be going in a very special little nursery. The mounted antlers are from the 50's...they too are getting painted & are almost complete! And finally, no day like this is complete without a little gardening. A sweet friend brought me all sorts of baby plants this week. Finally had a chance to give them a proper home, & even painted some old terracotta pots in the process.

Sometimes, simply using what you have, can be one of the most creative & rewarding things you can do.

Welp, it's been a really busy, really wonderful week filled with fabric dyeing, custom order work, & prepping for some new bags.

A sweet story & major highlight was acquiring a 60's model Consew industrial sewing machine that works beautifully.

It's quite the gift because it will allow for remnant to soar to new heights. It has a motor, a belt, & requires oil weekly... so let's just say that I'm not the only one having lots of fun figuring this machine out.

Color Inspiration

I've been in the process of dreaming up some colorways for new bags & other accessories. I'm always drawn to beautifully muted & natural shades like I've found in these everyday objects (plus it's a really great excuse to go visit our beach on a cold blustery day). So... maybe a little gold, ivory, gray, navy, & shell pink?

We'll see how it all comes together.

Gosh, it's almost the new year.

Our Christmas travels were so wonderful, as always.

Some New Remnant

A Very Happy Thanksgiving

And one last post from NYC.

Our last day was spent exploring a little more of Brooklyn.

Somehow we had to try & fit in a Pies N Thighs & pizza meal our last few hours there, & we sure did!

If you are in Brooklyn & want pizza, go to Grandma Rose's. John, the owner, is the nicest guy you'll ever meet. He left his successful corporate job to pursue his dream and carry on a family tradition. He wouldn't let us leave without trying all sorts of things we didn't even order, & sent us on the plane with a bag of doughy donut goodness.

We visited Smith & Butler (Hal was in motorcycle heaven). And it must be getting close to someone's bday (and yes, mine's just around the corner too), cause we found the most perfect vintage guy's jacket at a little thrift shop- fits him like a glove.

So, our last day was just as wonderful as all the rest.

NYC, we love you & we'll miss you... but it is, so good to be home.

We've done lots more exploring & met some incredibly kind people along the way. Today we ventured into the garment/fashion district of the city, and oh my goodness, I couldn't believe my eyes- more leather & fabric than I have ever seen before at one time, ever. I did find a very special piece of leather that HAD to come home with me (I'd have lost sleep if it hadn't). It's actually vintage printed leather- I can't resist a good navajo/geometric pattern.

Our last nite here was spent sharing a meal here with friends.

And dessert here.

Tomorrow, we explore a little more before heading home

(this also means squeezing in a couple more must have meals).

God's so good to us & it's very evident that He's been in every single detail of this adventure- accommodations, everyday conversations, & everything in between.

We're so very grateful.

There are few words that could really capture this past week. I'm not great with words, which is why I love telling photo stories. But this past week needs words, so I'll try. Let me begin by saying how incredibly special Sunday evening was. The love of my life & most incredible man I know, Hal Griffin, was ordained as a pastor... in the company of our church family who we hold near & dear. It's such an honor & last evening will always be etched into my memory. Our family traveled far to celebrate with us...and little did we know that the days leading up to Sunday would be as interesting as they were. From cars breaking down (multiple times) to a hurricane named Irene (and many details in between)...we had some hurdles. But we made it thru & just like any challenge you overcome, I'm pretty sure we're better for it - full of gratitude, for so many reasons.
